Risk Assessment
When performing this experiment I need to be careful when dealing with nails as they are sharp and can puncture your skin. Also another risk would be dealing with bleach as it can irritate the skin. To minimize this risk I will make sure to wear an apron, goggles and gloves.
Reliability and validity
Reliability was ensured by repeating each trial for the liquids 3 times and averaging the results. This eliminates the possibility of an outlier and also makes sure that the results are consistent. Validity was ensured by only changing one variable with each different trial. In my case it is the liquid in which the nails are submerged. To further keep the experiment valid I ensured that all other variables are controlled for each trial to make sure that there is no bias or change in difficulty or ease throughout the entire experiment. |
Variables
Independent Variable – Type of Coca Cola the rusted nail was submerged in.
Dependent Variable – Time it takes for the rust to be removed Control Variables – The amount of Coca Cola in each cup and making sure all the nails all equally had the same amount of rusted. |
